If you master one or more foreign languages you could work from home perfectly. You don’t need to be a registered translator, but you must speak and write that language fluently.
There are several websites that always need translators to work online. You must register, pass an exam, and immediately they assign texts for you to translate.
Your work is reviewed and if it’s well done you get paid for it. Some websites pay monthly and others fortnightly.
